Factual Reviews - Drakengard 3

10:07 AM , 0 Comments

Roughly one hundred years before the events of Drakengard, acting as a prequel to the first two games in the series. The story revolves around Zero, Mikhail and four disciples that join Zero on this dark, twisted journey full of mystery to kill her five sisters.

If you love dark and twisted fantasy games than this is one game you should not pass up on. That is if you can get over the technical issues this game has. Since this is my first review here is how I'm going to break up the review. It's going to be all facts with my own opinons for whoever wants it at the end.

Graphics

Drakengard 3 is not the prettiest game in out there with bland textures, and not so impressive backgrounds this does not mean that it is not a pretty game to look at. The bloom effect in the game helps it quite a lot and so does the anime inspired characters. The Unreal 3 engine should have been pushed more to the max and this would've been a really big help.
One thing that does really stand out are the weapons. Especially the swords in which if you look up real close you can see various cracks and scratches on them. Also something that always looked impressive no matter how many times I saw it was how when you are fighting the blood from your enemies land on you and stay on you. This really makes any battle look intense.

Score for graphics: 7/10

Music
The game music was composed by Keiichi Okabe which also created the score for Nier. This is hard to talk about without putting my opinions in it. Personally the music was pretty good. I really love the opening music and the battle music. It helps out the battles that you take and it really kicks in for the final boss battles.

Score for music: 8/10

Cinematics
The opening cinematics are your typical Square Enix quality. The cinematics are what made me really keep playing the game just to see the next one. They are all well done except for the lip sync. If you are more interested than check out this video for all the cutscenes.

Score for cinematics: 8/10

Story
I won't give any spoiler here so here is what I am going to say. The story of this game is full of sexual jokes, dark comedy and just strange humor. It is because of this that it makes this game story the best one in the series. A lot of reviewers say that the characters are not fleshed out. While that is true with the sisters I don't believe it is all that true with the rest of the characters. Towards the end of the game I felt like I knew how each character would react to each situation and my favorite character had to be Decadus. I really love how he acts out his role and for sure a character that I wish got more time. Be prepare for a story that will surprise you after your various playthroughs.

Score for story: 9/10

Content
Now one major problem with the game is that there isn't enough content in the game. There's not much besides doing the main story and the sidequests that get very repetitive quickly. Thats all there is in the game.

Score for content: 4/10

Final Thoughts
My final thoughts is that I love the game but it is not for everyone. If you can overlook the issues the game has than you'll find a really great story with some crazy action. A lot of over the top jokes but that's what makes it quirky.

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
